Springboard: Quek Hwee Kimberly
Part-Time Social Science Research Assistant, SUSS

Kimberly is a passionate advocate for accessibility and inclusion, working to create more inclusive learning environments while navigating challenges arising from her profound hearing loss. At the National University of Singapore, she collaborated with peers and faculty to develop guidelines for live note-taking and inclusive teaching. She also introduced Singapore Sign Language workshops, Deaf Hangouts and other initiatives to foster greater awareness of the Deaf community. Beyond campus, she volunteers with various organisations (including Youth Corps Singapore, Singapore Association for the Deaf, SG Enable and the Disabled People’s Association), supporting persons with disabilities and the wider community.
Fellowship Goals and Aspirations
With support from the Fellowship, Kimberly plans to pursue postgraduate studies to gain the knowledge and skills needed to design inclusive, population-level community health interventions. She hopes to give back by applying these insights to inform and shape policy work and help build positive, inclusive communities.
