Mdm Ten
Rebuilding life - Mdm Ten's second chance at work
At just 15, Mdm Ten’s life changed forever when a motorcycle accident led to the amputation of her left leg below the knee.
In 2019, she faced another setback - retrenchment. For two months, despite relentless job hunting, doors remained closed. As anxiety grew, she started to worry about providing for her three young children.
That was when she was introduced to SPD’s employment support services which help persons with disabilities to secure and sustain meaningful employment. Through career matching, job coaching, and on-the-job support tailored to her needs and abilities, Mdm Ten found hope again.
Recognising her determination as an individual seeking financial independence and a mother striving to give her children a better life, SPD supported her through training and encouragement. She started as an operations assistant in VITAL, the Singapore Public Service’s central agency for corporate shared services. From there, she progressed to further training at the SPD Contact Centre where her perseverance, positivity and commitment to her family remain her driving force.
Today, Mdm Ten works at one of SPD Contact Centre’s customer sites, where she is valued for her dedication and recognised for the energy she brings to the team.
Her journey is a powerful reminder that individuals like Mdm Ten can overcome challenges, regain independence, and build brighter futures for their families.
SPD’s Empower Connect: Inclusive Contact Centre Pathways for Persons with Disabilities programme supported by President’s Challenge.
The SPD Contact Centre creates meaningful training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities, including SPED graduates. By equipping them with soft and industry-specific skills, it provides alternative career pathways beyond traditional roles and supports progression within the industry. This empowers persons with disabilities to gain financial independence, develop their potential, and experience greater social inclusion, while complementing national efforts to improve employment outcomes.
Together, we can open doors to new opportunities.
