Mdm Norliza
When life took an unexpected turn: Support helped Mdm Norliza’s family stand firm.

A sudden fall changed everything for Mdm Norliza. A fractured wrist led to surgery and months of rehabilitation. For her family, the injury was more than physical – it brought deep worry and uncertainty.
Her husband, the sole breadwinner for the family, was managing chronic medical conditions that required regular medication. With mounting medical bills and limited income, the family found themselves struggling to make ends meet. Each day became a careful balancing act of needs, costs, and quiet resilience.
Overwhelmed by the pressure, Mdm Norliza made a brave decision. She reached out for help.
That step led her to RiverLife Community Services (RCS), where her family found more than financial assistance – they found a community that walked alongside them. RCS provided immediate financial aid to ease urgent burdens and worked closely with the family to understand their unique circumstances. Support was holistic, thoughtful, and centred on strengthening the family as a whole.
Through the BLESS Mums programme, Mdm Norliza connected with other mothers navigating similar challenges. In this safe and supportive space, she found understanding, encouragement, and friendships that reminded her she was not alone. “I am able to connect with fellow mothers in similar situations,” she shares. “I feel seen, heard, and supported.”

Her family was also enrolled in RCS’ Saturday Family Date sessions which provide opportunities for families to build bonds and gain practical tools and skills to navigate life’s challenges together. Volunteer mentors journeyed with her children, offering not just academic guidance, but steady emotional support and belief in their potential.
My family enjoys the outings organised by RCS. My children have benefitted from having a mentor to journey with them. Thank you, RCS, for helping us.— Mdm Norliza
Today, while financial challenges remain, Mdm Norliza and her husband face each day with renewed strength and confidence to guide their children better. Their burdens are lighter, shared with a caring community that stands with them.
Mdm Norliza is now a core member of the BLESS Mum’s programme. Her story is a reminder that when families are supported with care, dignity, and compassion, hope can take root – and together, they can rise stronger.
About RiverLife Community Services - BLESS Mums Programme supported by President's Challenge
The programme seeks to engage mothers from lower income families with school-going children through providing sustainable platforms to increase social capital and be empowered as an individual in society. This is achieved through bi-weekly engagement sessions, creating a safe, welcoming space for mums to connect, support one another, and grow together.
