Finding herself again – Mdm Huraizah reclaims time, confidence, and hope

For a long time, every day felt like a race against the clock for Mdm Huraizah. As a mother of four young children aged between five and thirteen, her days were filled from dawn till night — school runs, meals, caregiving, and tending to endless needs. There was little space to pause, and even less to think about herself.
“I felt like my time wasn’t mine anymore... Everything was for the children. I couldn’t even imagine making space for my own needs.”— Mdm Huraizah

Carrying the emotional and physical demands of caregiving, Mdm Huraizah often felt stretched thin. While her love for her children never wavered, the weight of responsibility left her exhausted, with little room to recharge or reflect on her own aspirations.
Her turning point came when she was introduced to BLESS Mums, a support programme by RiverLife Community Services (RCS). Designed for mothers navigating similar challenges, the programme brought together women who were holding their families together, often while quietly setting themselves aside.
What Mdm Huraizah found was more than a programme. She found a community.

Surrounded by fellow mothers who understood her struggles, she no longer felt alone. BLESS Mums offered a safe space where she could speak honestly, be supported, and be seen not just as a caregiver, but as a woman with dreams, strengths, and potential of her own.
Workshops on emotional wellness and parenting were thoughtfully paired with light-hearted outings that allowed mums to recharge. “The activities, the support, the encouragement helped me in ways I didn’t expect,” she says. “I gained new ideas, skills, and confidence. I always leave feeling lighter, more hopeful.”
The greatest change, she reflects, has been within. Through the programme, she learned patience – with her children, and with herself. “I’ve learned to practise self-control, to be kinder to myself, and to speak words of encouragement not just to my children, but to my own heart.”
Today, Mdm Huraizah is looking ahead with renewed confidence. She hopes to step into the working world to support her family and to show her children the value of perseverance. “My goal is to be successful, to show my children that their mother didn’t give up. I kept going.”
“Blessed Mums gave us more than just a place to go. They gave us purpose and community. We can laugh, learn, and leave feeling stronger.”— Mdm Huraizah
Her journey is a reminder that when mothers are supported, families grow stronger, and hope finds its way back home.
About RiverLife Community Services’s BLESS Mums Programme
The programme seeks to engage mothers from lower income families with school-going children through providing sustainable platforms to increase social capital and be empowered as an individual in society. This is achieved through bi-weekly engagement sessions, creating a safe, welcoming space for mums to connect, support one another, and grow together.
